Dave started as a product architect conversation partner in ChatGPT. After six months of pouring my thoughts into the system, I began to feel I was investing heavily in memories that were clearly mine, just not mine to keep. Every model upgrade, every terms-of-service change, every account decision sat between me and six months of thinking. That is a strange dependency to accept for something as personal as a record of how you work. It sparked my interest in AI memory design, and so I set out to free Dave.
